hobby for animals
Hello people how are you, we are here in a last blog and
well this activity of being a blogger for a few weeks has been very
entertaining since we are expressed in the form of writing and people can find
out that we like or like, but everything This is so funny that the internet we
use to make these blogs is very slow and it takes you a long time to do the
blogs, well and I hope that next year we will do the same XD.
well today I'm going to talk about my hobby that is the love for animals, but in one in particular that they are hyenas.
The hyena is the most common large carnivore in Africa. Over the years, hyenas and humans have been in close contact in Africa and, in earlier times, in Asia and in Europe, which often led to mutual predation. In ancient Egypt, hyenas were domesticated, fattened and eaten, in turn, human beings have sometimes become food for hyenas. Despite their reputation as being cowards and shy, hyenas can be bold and dangerous, andattack animals and humans. Physical characteristics
Of the three species of hyenas in Africa, only spotted hyena and the rarest and most timid, striped hyena (hyaena hyaena) are found in East Africa. The smallest, and even more shy, brown hyena (hyaena brunnea) inhabits only in southern Africa. Unlike most other animals, female hyenas are dominant over males and exceed them by about 3 pounds.
It is difficult to distinguish male and female hyenas only by observation. They are not hermaphrodites (they have both sexual organs, male and female), nor can they change sex at will, as many people believe. However, the female external genitalia have a superficial similarity to the male, however they are female organs and only females get pregnant and breastfeed their young. Why female hyena has developed in this way is not known, but it may have been necessary for them to appear large and strong and protect their young from males, since hyenas have cannibalistic tendencies.
Habitat
Hyenas are found in grasslands, forests, savannas, sub-deserts, forest edges and mountains.
Diet
The spotted hyena is both dexterous in hunting and also a scavenger. Truly an opportunistic feeder, select the easiest and most attractive food and can ignore fresh carrion and bones if there are, for example, a large number of vulnerable wildebeest calves. It consumes animals of various types and sizes (including domestic livestock and even other hyenas), carrion, bones, plant matter and feces of other animals.
Behavior
The hyenas are organized into territorial clans of related individuals who defend their areas of action against intruder clans. The center of the clan's activity is the moat, where puppies are raised and individuals are found. The pit is generally located on high ground, in the central part of the territory. Its above ground entrances are connected to a series of underground tunnels.
The hyenas mark and patrol their territories by depositing a strong-smelling substance produced by their anal glands in the grass stalks along the borders. The "latrines," places where members of a clan deposit their droppings, also mark territories. The high mineral content of the bones that hyenas consume makes their droppings have a very visible white chalk color.
Hyenas are social animals that communicate with each other through specific calls, postures and signals, and quickly their various intentions are known by other members of the clan, or strangers. When the tail of a hyena stays straight, for example, it is a sign of attack. When it is up and forward on the back, the hyena is extremely excited. On the contrary, if it hangs down when the hyena is standing or walking, it means calm. If he gets scared, the hyena sticks his tail between his legs, against his belly and usually takes distance.
The care of the young
The hyenas, usually carry with litters of two to four puppies, which, in the spotted hyena, unlike the other two species, are born with open eyes. Puppies start eating meat in about 5 months, but they are breastfed for as long as 12 to 18 months, an unusually long time for carnivores.
This is probably a necessity, since most deaths occur far from the pit, and hyenas and jackals, unlike hunting dogs, do not bring back food and regurgitate them for their young. In about 1 year, puppies begin to follow their mothers in their hunting incursions. Until then, they stay behind in the pit with an adult caring for puppies.
The Predators
Lions attack at every opportunity, hunting dogs and strange hyenas are among the species that feed on hyenas.
Did you know?
Hyenas make a variety of vocalizations, including calls, wailing, screaming and howls known as "laughter" that they use to alert other members of the clan up to three miles away from a food source.
Hyenas eat a variety of products of animal, vegetable and, according to campers, even aluminum pots and pans.
Well, in my opinion, the life of the hyenas is a bit hard since it is "to survive or die" and I really liked to investigate more about the hyenas and as a final I hope you liked that blogs and see you soon.......
